Rationale for the project To investigate if using geometric shapes as the base for branding a large scale conference, could be applied from graphics to stage design. Who was the project for Visitors to a large conference about tunnel boring machines Preparation for the project Produce moodboards and research boards to help with branding the conference. This led to using geometric shapes to represent the TBMs breaking rock in tunnelling operations. How the project was produced The graphics and branding was sketched out and then completed in Illustrator CS. These were used in the stage, design, t-shirts, posters and bags. Next concept sketches were produced of the stage before modelling in Lightwave 3D. Here lighting was used to highlight certain features such as the stairs and projected images onto the stage, instead of using plasma screens. What was learnt from the project This was the first project by JC3DVIS looking at conference design, the main issues discovered were the large width and low height, greatly affected how the graphics would work. Another was how much of the surrounding environment was kept dark to highlight the stage which was quite different to other projects, where usually the whole environment needs to be visible.
